Thermodynamics final project: SABRE Validation
For my Thermodynamics final project, I analyzed a revolutionary type of engine, called the SABRE engine. Built by Reaction Engines Ltd, the SABRE engine is capable of switching between air-breathing and closed-cycle modes. This engine is revolutionary as it allows for more practical single stage to orbit missions with reduced fuel usage for in-atmospheric modes.
In our project, we thermodynamically validated the stated performance of the SABRE cycle, and analyzed the characteristics of several important components, including a patented heat exchange system. This gave us a look into the characteristics and performance of some of the more revolutionary components of the system, and make conclusions about the feasibility of the system as a whole. |
